Happy New Year, peo­ple. I hope that, thus far, 2010 has been noth­ing but incred­i­ble for you.

I’ve got some res­o­lu­tions. They’re pretty minor as res­o­lu­tions go, how­ever I plan to stick to them, and think I’ll be rewarded hand­somely for fol­low­ing through. Here goes:

1. Never say never. Where applic­a­ble, of course. For exam­ple, “I’ll never be a horse” is some­thing that I could see myself say­ing with­out hav­ing a sec­ond thought about it… but I might, in a few months or so, decide that pur­ple isn’t all that bad of a color to wear, or that liver is actu­ally deli­cious. You never know. Never.

2. Give love a chance. I tend to write peo­ple off pretty quickly. I plan to be less of a self-righteous jerk.

3. Lis­ten up. I ignore peo­ple. I ignore peo­ple all of the time. If some­one is try­ing to tell me some­thing that I think I already know, and that some­one keeps talk­ing after I tell them that “I know”, I will ignore that some­one. If some­one says the word “rib­bon” or “sequins” in a sen­tence, I’ll stop lis­ten­ing for fear of the liq­uefi­ca­tion of my gray mat­ter. If some­one is yelling at me, that some­one may as well be scream­ing at the floor beneath me. If I don’t respect some­one (see #2) then that some­one is wast­ing his or her breath, time, and energy speak­ing to me. And because of all that, I some­times miss some things.

4. Big­gie Smalls is the Illest My Big­gie impres­sion needs work. I hope to per­fect it.
